Mount Desert was settled in 1762 and incorporated in 1789. Mount Desert includes the villages of Northeast Harbor, Somesville (the first village on the island) and Seal Harbor.  Many famous people have lived in this community including Martha Stewart and Casper Weinberger.

One of the more coveted lakes in Maine is mostly in Mount Desert.  Long Pond is a tranquil lake in the heart of Mount Desert Island.  Although it is one of several lakes on the island this one seems to be the most prized.  One of the sections of the lake looks across at Acadia National Park so the vistas will forever be untouched by development.
